SMILES?!

You would think that by having a simple title like "SMILES" it would mean that my day was filled with smiles...alast, it was not...It was actually filled with lot of "FROWNS" as I was frowning while doing the assignment assigned to me by my KOS lecturer...Today, we learned stuff such as XML, PDB (which I had already learned last sem :P) and, of course, SMILES...

So you see, SMILES (Simplified Molecular Input Line Entry Specification) is actually a line notation for molecules. SMILES strings include connectivity but do not include 2D or 3D coordinates. To obtain the SMILES for the molecular structures given by our madam, we had to first draw them in ChemSketch...It was an interesting experience...So, the pictures below are some of the SMILES that was done today, enjoy them :)

So, that all for today...These SMILES maybe tough to do but they will be very important for the finals so I'm glad that I could do them (although it's not very good :p, well, at least I learned something new!). Thank you Madam for teaching us, see you next week for the quiz (PLEASE give us easy questions!)...take care everyone,wassalam...

KOS 1110: ChemSketch Class

It was said that life is truly meaningful if, and when, you learn a new thing everyday, may it be simple things or complicated stuffs...All that matters is that you've strive to achieve something new...Well, today I learned a very interesting yet kinda complicated computer program that allow users to draw chemical structures, etc.

As an overall summary, ACD/ChemSketch is the powerful all-purpose chemical drawing and graphics package that was developed to help chemists quickly and easily draw molecular structures, reactions, and schematic diagrams, calculate chemical properties, and design professional reports and presentations. In other, more simpler, words...it allows the user to draw and do cool stuff concerning chemistry :)

So, today I learned to do the following:
1. Drawing the energy of reaction diagram

2. Drawing the different kinds of orbitals

3. Drawing vacuum distillation apparatus

4. Drawing a two-chain DNA Strand

5. Drawing lipids and micelles

These are the pictures of the drawings I did with the program...Its not very beautiful, but I think as long as I, and everyone else, can kind of understand them, I think its ok enough...k, thats all for now,wassalam...

Starting Again...The Journey of My Current Life

It has been months (almost a year!?!) since I've updated this blog...I can give you lots of reasons why I haven't updated it, like for example, I was busy with the finishing touches on my Final Year Project (FYP) or that I just didn't have time...but the truth may just be that fact that I was lazy :p

Well, since I've started taking classes again and am taking KOS 1110, which is a computer class, I am once again writing in this little blog of mine. So, I previously left-off that I was having problems with my FYP and I was taking you guys through my earlier years....Here, I'm just gonna update on the current status of my life and the story of my up-growing will be continued later on...if ever, huhu...

Alright...First up is my FYP which, alhamdulillah, was finally finished and was sent to the Department around May-June 2010...I've even gotten my marks, which will not be stated in this blog :) but overall, it all ended on a happy note. The presentation was tough and the questions were mind-boggling but everything worked out in the end.

Now, after more than a month of break, the new semester (my last semester in this University)has finally begun...I only have 2 subjects to take this semester, which are EOP (English for Occupational Purposes) and KOS 1110 (Computer in Science). My classes are held on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday mornings and evenings, making the rest of the week free of classes. With all that free time, you'd think I'd be happy, but as the days move on by, the repetitive daily routines are becoming boring...I'm trying to make up ways to fill in the time, but for now, I'm free-flying :)

I think that's all for now, I'll continue later on when new ideas come up...or when Madam Aslinda gives us any assignments, hehe...May God bless us all, wassalam...
